Two suspects charged with murder in Steele Creek Division

Charlotte, NC.- As a result of the ongoing investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit (CMPD) have identified and charged two suspects in connection with the murder of 21-year-old Elijah Johnthan Wright.

During the evening hours of Friday, October 4, 2024, the CMPD Violent Offender Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested 18-year-old Mia Patterson and 18-year-old Logan Lightner, without incidents.

Both suspects were transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to speak with detectives. At the conclusion of the interviews, they were placed in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with murder.

Wright’s closest relatives are aware of the arrests.

The fact

On Monday, July 22, shortly after 1:30 a.m., officers responded to a call for service for shots fired in the 8900 block of Rachel Freeman Way. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. MEDIC also responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and the crime scene search team responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from the CMPD Operations Command, Victim Services, CFD and MEDIC also collaborated.

Investigation

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information is developed, it will be released by the CMPD Public Affairs Office.
