Two Russian astronauts canceled spacewalk mission due to technical problems

“Russian spacecraft Soyuz MS-22 aft coolant leak”

TASS and Archyde.com reported on the 15th that Russian cosmonauts’ mission to travel outside the International Space Station (ISS) was canceled due to technical problems.

According to reports, Russian cosmonauts Sergei Prokofiev and Dmitry Petelin left the ISS Russian module ‘Poisk’ at 5:20 am (Moscow time) on the same day and planned to do a spacewalk for 6 hours and 30 minutes.

In addition, the mission was to use a robotic arm to move the heat exchanger from the ISS’s ‘Rasvet’ module to Russia’s multipurpose laboratory module ‘Nauka’.

However, the plan was canceled following it was revealed that an unknown substance had leaked from the tail of the Soyuz MS-22, a Russian spacecraft docked at the ISS prior to the mission.

The Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) said, “The planned trip outside the ISS of two Russian cosmonauts has been canceled due to technical problems.”

Archyde.com reported citing NASA officials that the leaked material was believed to be coolant.

He also said that the astronauts on the ISS did not appear to be in any danger as a result of the accident.

Previously, in September, two Russian cosmonauts, including Prokofiev, arrived at the ISS on a Russian Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft launched from the Baikonur Space Center in Kazakhstan along with American astronaut Frank Rubio of NASA.

At the time, it was the first time an American astronaut had landed on a Russian rocket on the ISS since the Ukrainian crisis in February.
