The “What’s happening in Kaunas” portal has found out that Kaunas prosecutors have started an administrative case aimed at canceling two transactions related to plots owned by Matijošaičiau in the Vičiūnai microdistrict and returning two plots of land to state ownership.
According to the data of the Registry Center, on 11/07/2019, the rights to the land were restored to the natural person, and less than a month later, Š. Matijošaitis and his wife purchased these plots.
Both seized plots border the plots of his brother, also a member of the city council, Dainius Matijošaitis. The mayor of Kaunas, Visvaldas Matijošaitis, also lives nearby.
Last March, the Department of Public Interest Protection of the General Prosecutor’s Office evaluated the decision refusing to apply public interest protection measures regarding 34 plots of land purchased by Š. Matijošaitis.
The senior prosecutor then upheld the ruling of the Kaunas District Prosecutor’s Office, after determining that there were basically no violations of legal acts regulating the restoration of ownership rights and the formation of land plots for the restoration of ownership rights.
During the investigation, it was found that laws were violated during the restoration of ownership rights to the land in Kaunas for one person. Due to this case, the prosecutor’s office applied to the court in early 2023, requesting the annulment of the administrative acts, the annulment of the transaction and the application of restitution.
The prosecutor’s office assessed the circumstances of the acquisition of plots after the LRT announced an investigation at the end of 2022 that during the two terms of office of V. Matijošaitis, his son, using a potentially non-transparent scheme, purchased a total of 34 plots in the most attractive areas through intermediaries from persons to whom land rights were restored. in the districts of Kaunas.
