Two people were injured in a Russian drone attack in Kyiv

The drone strike was a rare breach of the Ukrainian capital’s air defenses, the first in months. Russia often targets Kyiv with missiles and drones, but they are usually shot down.

In the evening, air warning sirens sounded in Kyiv, residents heard explosions.

“[Dronas] “Shahed” hit a residential building in Kyiv,” Andrijus Yermaks, the head of the administration of the President of Ukraine, reported on the Telegram platform.

The attack affected the capital’s western Solomyanka district, Mayor Vitaly Klychko wrote to Telegram. He referred to “flames on the upper floors.”

One man was hospitalized and another was treated at the scene, he added.

Kyiv’s military administration posted photos of apartment buildings with broken windows on social media and said the damage was not caused by a drone strike, but by debris from the downed drone.

V. Klyčko also said that the wreckage of another downed drone fell on an unfinished house in the Darnytsia district in the east of the capital and that there were no victims.

Shrapnel from a downed drone hit a high-rise in the southern district of Holosiiv, but no one was injured, the city’s military administration wrote to Telegram.

The Ukrainian Air Force also announced that several groups of Russian-launched drones were flying towards the center, west and south of the country.
