It was around 5:45 p.m. when the La Louvière firefighters were called to rue de Baume, not far from the police station, for a fire.
A fire which, unfortunately, made at least one victim. “We know that two people reside in this building and one of them unfortunately died in the fire”, Eddy Maillet, head of the La Louvière police zone, confirmed to us at first. “We are currently actively looking for the second person.”
Shortly following our call to the corps commander, a second victim was confirmed by Françoise Ghiot, mayor acting in the absence of Jacques Gobert. “The fire was brought under control around 8 p.m. but a second victim is to be deplored”, she confirmed to us. “As for the origins of the fire, they are still unknown. The firefighters told me that the progression of the flames had been dazzling and that they had rarely seen this.”
Regarding the two people who lost their lives in the fire of this small single-family house, we just know that they were part of the same family.
The local police zone has set up a security perimeter around the scene of the tragedy. On her Facebook page, she invites Louviérois to avoid the neighborhood.
Investigation duties will now begin to determine the exact causes and circumstances of the tragedy.
