University of Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Devin Willock and scouting staff member Chandler LeCroy died in a traffic accident overnight Saturday-Sunday, just hours following celebrating their victory in the national college football championship.
The institution made the announcement in a press release.
Two other members of the football team were also in the vehicle. Those whose identities have not been released have been injured, but there is no fear for their lives.
The crash happened around 2:45 a.m., following the celebrations and parade marking the Bulldogs’ victory. Last Monday, Georgia defeated the TCU Horned Frogs 65-7 to claim their second consecutive championship.
“We are all heartbroken and devastated by the deaths of Devin Willock and Chandler LeCroy,” Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart said in a statement. Devin was an exceptional young man in every way. He was always smiling, was a great teammate and a joy to coach.”
“She was a valued member of our football team and brought incredible attitude and energy every day,” he added of LeCroy. We mourn with their families this tragic loss and we will support them in any way we can.”
