Two of the biggest anime pirate sites in Brazil are closed by the Ministry of Justice

Two of the biggest anime piracy sites in Brazil were closed today through an operation by the National Secretariat for Public Security (Senasp) of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP). Operation Animes is an offshoot of Operation 404 that was started in 2019 in conjunction with the Content Overseas Distribution Association (Coda).

The MJSP does not communicate the name of the closed sites, but the operation was large, as it also resulted in the search and seizure of computers, cell phones, technological devices, de-indexing of content in search engines and removal of profiles on social networks, as informed by the Commissioner of the Cybercrime Section, Sidney Tenório.

The operation, which began on February 8, arrested a 22-year-old university student who lives in Arapiraca, Alagoas, and is responsible for one of the pages that distributed illegal content on the Internet. A second search and seizure also took place in Pompeu, Minas Gerais, where computers and HDs were also confiscated.

Users of social networks already point out that one of the sites closed by the operation may be Better Anime, which now displays a message indicating that the owner was not arrested, but had to close the site following a notification with DMCA (Digital Millenium Act), a law created in the USA that criminalizes the illegal distribution of copyrighted content.
