Morocco concluded, on Monday, two new loan agreements with the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) to complete the financing of the modernization sites of Rabat-Salé airport and Nador West Med port (NWM). Signed by the AfDB and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, these loan agreements relate to a total amount of 91 million euros (approximately 940 million DH).
The first (34 million euros), completes an envelope of 75 million euros already mobilized in 2018 for the extension and modernization of Rabat-Salé airport, with the objective of strengthening competitiveness and attractiveness of the Rabat-Salé economic zone. This project aims to respond to the increase in air traffic in a booming economic area around the capital, and to meet the growing logistical needs of the country’s economic operators. It will also quadruple freight and passenger capacity, in addition to opening new lines from Rabat-Salé, to complete the offer of Casablanca airport.
As for the second agreement (57 million euros), it completes an initial envelope of nearly 113 million euros granted in 2015. Objective: to build two twenty-foot equivalent container terminals, a specialized bulk loading station of four million tonnes, a goods terminal and a liquid products terminal with respective capacities of 33 million and 14 million tonnes.
