Two Lebanese stripped of their Gabonese nationality by presidential decree –

Two Lebanese nationals in Gabon have just been stripped of their Gabonese nationality by decree of the President of the Transition, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma following the fake passport scandal which shook Gabon in 2020.

« Chehab ABBAS and Ondo A EKIA Adel TOHMER Georges were found guilty by the Criminal Division of the Judicial Court of Appeal of Libreville of the offense of complicity in the establishment of false nationality documents having contributed to the issuance of several Gabonese passports “, says a press release from the Ministry of Justice.

« Given the seriousness of the act committed and in application of articles 35 and 36 of law n° 37/98 relating to the Gabonese nationality code, Messrs. Ondo A EKIA Adel TOHMER Georges (Decree n° 0356/PT/MJGS) and Chehab ABBAS (Decree n° 0357/PT/MJGS) are deprived of Gabonese nationality by decrees of the President of the Transition, President of the Republic, Head of State, dated September 2, 2024. “, the text continues.

« These decrees perfectly illustrate the aspirations of the highest authorities of the Transition who will not hesitate to strip of Gabonese nationality any person who has acquired Gabonese nationality and who is distinguished by reprehensible acts which undermine the integrity of Gabon. “, warned the Gabonese government.

« The Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, wishes to recall that Gabon will be more demanding and firm with regard to persons who have acquired Gabonese nationality and who are in conflict with Gabonese legislation. “, warned the press release which bears the letterhead of the Ministry of Justice, Keeper of the Seals.

The Ministry specifies that in consideration of the above, the persons concerned will be subject to an expulsion measure from Gabonese territory at the end of their prison sentence.
