Judging by the number of vehicle debris strewn on the road, but also by the significant damage caused to the two vehicles involved, the shock that occurred this Thursday around 3:30 p.m. was extremely violent.

It was at the infamous Borgnette crossroads – which was also called the Pizza Hut or Chez Léon crossroads in the past – that the shock occurred; according to what we might observe on the spot, one of the cars was coming from the direction of Froyennes and the other was heading towards Tournai. Everything suggests that one of the two drivers did not respect the red light – or orange – which required him to stop.

The car heading towards Tournai, despite the very significant damage caused to its right flank, continued its course for several tens of meters before stopping. It was from this vehicle that the emergency services extricated the most seriously injured person. It would seem that for the other driver, the injuries were less serious. The latter, very young according to some witnesses, would have even left the scene immediately following the accident without waiting for the arrival of the police. This information was confirmed by the Tournai prosecutor’s office, which also specified that this minor, intercepted by the police, would be brought before the juvenile judge on Friday.

The latter secured the road during the intervention of the emergency services, in particular by closing the “right turn” from rue de la Borgnette to traffic, which caused major traffic jams at the height of rush hour. .
