Two people have been charged as a result of the investigation into a fire that broke out in Nice on the evening of Wednesday, July 17, and ended on Thursday, July 18, in which seven people died, including four minors. That evening, two parents, four children and a family member were trapped in the flames, died in their apartments or by jumping into the void, among residents on the seventh floor of a building in the popular Moulins district. A 23-year-old young man also jumped from the window and is currently hospitalized.

At a press conference on Monday the 22nd, Nice prosecutor Damien Martinelli announced that in addition to the two people charged, the police are still looking for three people, including a minor people. Five men clearly appeared on the monitor screen. At 2:24 a.m. that night, the three men entered a building in the famous Mulan district wearing only shorts and T-shirts. There were two people left in the car.

One of the two charged suspects, 25, was driving the vehicle. On Thursday morning, hours after the tragedy, the young man went to the office of an attorney, who briefed investigators. He said that he found seven people dead at night in the early morning and wanted to call the police. The second suspect to be charged, a 21-year-old man with burns on his legs, was arrested by the Research and Intervention Team in Grand Noisy (Seine-Saint-Denis) on Sunday, 21 July. The prosecutor mentioned that the latter put “In light of his circumstances, raise his right to remain silent”. Man confirms participation “Don’t want to explain further”, according to prosecutors. He was transferred to Nice for investigation.
