Getting up at dawn was not enough to avoid traffic jams in Gotthard on Saturday. At 08:00, the line of vehicles in front of the northern entrance to the tunnel had already reached almost 12 kilometers, according to the TCS.
The length of the traffic jam in the north-south direction hardly varied throughout the morning, reaching at most 13 km, or more than two hours of waiting before crossing the Gotthard. Shortly before noon, it was still 12 km. The line of cars was slowly reduced in the followingnoon: at 5:30 p.m. it still stretched for 7 km, still representing 1:10 a.m. of patience.
A little further south, motorists had to turn off the engine of their vehicle once more before going through customs at Chiasso-Brodega, where the TCS reported a column of no more than 2 km. In the other direction, the line of vehicles is shorter. It nevertheless measured some 4 km shortly before noon at the southern entrance to the tunnel.
