Two gunmen open fire on passersby, killing two Israelis

Two people were killed, and three policemen were wounded, on Sunday, in an attack carried out by two gunmen, in the city of Hadera, in Israel, according to the Israeli Ambulance Service.

The accident took place in Hadera, a city about 50 kilometers north of Tel Aviv, during the visit of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, to Israel and the holding of an Israeli-Arab summit in the south of the country.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the accident.

CCTV footage broadcast by Israeli television stations showed two men opening fire with assault rifles on a main street in Hadera.

Three policemen were injured by gunfire during the incident.

Police confirmed that they were able to quickly identify the attackers, and that the officers shot them dead.

“Fortunately, our officers were able to neutralize the attackers and prevent a larger terrorist attack,” National Police spokesman Eli Levy told Israel’s Kan TV.

In an initial detailed statement issued by the police, it said that “a short time ago, two terrorists arrived on Herbert Samuel Street in Hadera and opened fire on a police force who were at the scene.”

“As a result of the shooting, two passersby have been confirmed dead,” the statement added.

And she added, “A secret force from the border guards was on the scene and responded quickly, and after a short time the exchange of fire managed to neutralize the terrorists.”

The Hadera attack came days after the stabbing and ramming attack in the city of Beersheba, southern Israel, killing 4 and wounding others, according to the volunteers of the Israeli Ambulance Service.

The police said in a statement at the time that “a man armed with a knife arrived at a commercial area in Beersheba and wounded three civilians with a knife.”
