Officials from the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigation Corps (CICPC) rescued two girls aged 12 and 14 who ran away from their home in Táchira state with the aim of going to Colombia, alleging alleged family abuse.
Commissioner Douglas Rico said that commissions in San Cristóbal received the report of the disappearance of the two young women. Both had been missing since May 28. The girls live in the Genaro Méndez sector of the La Concordia parish, belonging to the San Cristóbal municipality.
After that, they carried out a large operation that led to the location of the two minors on the followingnoon of July 5, that is, more than a month later. Fortunately, they did not suffer any type of injury.
Specifically, they were located in the Las Mercedes sector of the Dora Alarcón hamlet, Santa Ana parish, Córdoba municipality, in the state of Táchira. According to Rico, they were in the home of a distant relative of one of the young women.
THE ALLEGED ABUSE, THE REASON FOR THE ESCAPE
When the girls were interviewed, it was revealed that they had planned to run away from home, citing the “poor family atmosphere” they had. They also expressed their desire not to return because they feared being victims of physical abuse by their immediate family members.
“However, once they were located, they were evaluated by health personnel, and it was determined that they were in good physical condition, with no signs of violence,” Rico said.
In view of this, the case was referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Protection Council for further study.
