A Bruges investigating judge has placed a 44-year-old man under arrest, suspected of having murdered his two daughters, said the Bruges section of the West Flanders prosecutor’s office. The girls, aged five and eight, were killed on Wednesday evening in the town of Oostkamp, West Flanders.
The facts took place in a farm located in Waardamme, a section of the municipality of Oostkamp, near Bruges. The dead bodies of the victims were found Wednesday shortly following 8 p.m. at their father’s home. Chris V. was nowhere to be found at the time, but was apprehended later that evening. The 40-year-old has since confessed.
This double homicide occurred in the context of a difficult divorce. The father of the little girls was brought before an examining magistrate on Friday. The latter decided to place him under arrest warrant for suspicion of double assassination. The Bruges council chamber must decide on Tuesday whether or not to extend his detention.
