Teamwork makes the dream work. This also applies to the election for Upper Austria’s Athlete of the Year. In order to get as many online votes as possible (for voting), you need strong teams.
It was obvious for Nicola Kuhn and Georg Enzenberger to work together, as the water ski queen and the triathlete have been a couple for around a year and a half. “In the beginning we often ran into each other on the Gugl,” says Enzenberger, describing how it all began. “At some point we went out to eat.”
The art of the right step
Since then, the people from Linz and from Eferding have been one heart and one soul. While Kuhn accompanied the 29-year-old to his surprising third place at the Ironman Klagenfurt and to the World Championships in Nice (26th), Enzenberger is flying to Florida for her World Championships at the beginning of October. Although joint training sessions are the exception due to the different requirements – Enzenberger has never been into water skiing – an athlete relationship also offers unmistakable advantages. “It’s something different when you have someone at your side who knows exactly what it’s like when things don’t go well and can then build you up in a completely different way,” says Enzenberger, looking back on the summer. “Before Nice I often sat there and thought to myself that it no longer makes sense, that I can just leave it alone.” It was precisely in this phase that Kuhn found the right words – or as the Ironman puts it: gave him “just the right kick in the ass”.
The reverse is also the case. Kuhn: “When I get frustrated, Georg lifts me up once more.” It is logical that they support each other in the election. However, they don’t get a team into their rope team. “We’ve thought regarding it, but since we both have different teams that we’re associated with, we don’t want to offend anyone,” they say in unison. Nevertheless, the two can rely on their family and friend circles to click for them.
This is how the election works:
You can only vote on nachrichten.at/sportlerwahl become. You can vote three times a day per account. The election runs until October 20th (midnight). The ten best in each category then advance to the final, in which a jury of experts – consisting of representatives from Sportland, ORF, the umbrella and professional associations and the OÖN as well as former greats such as Hannes Trinkl, Theresia Kiesl and Andreas Goldberger – decide on the rankings vote. The result of the fan vote is included in the final result. The winners will be honored on November 2nd in Linz.
