Local police received a call on Saturday night around 7:00 p.m. reporting that a child had been run over on a pedestrian crossing by a fleeing car. The girl suffered serious injuries and was taken to the emergency room. Unfortunately, she died during the night. Despite initial reports that it was a hit and run accident, police investigations have formally ruled out any road accident. Two members of the victim’s family, a 43-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man, were arrested in connection with the incident. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances that led to the child’s death.
On Saturday evening around 7:00 p.m., local police received a call reporting that a child had been run over on a pedestrian crossing by a fleeing car.
The girl, seriously injured, had been taken to the emergency room where she died during the night.
The first elements of the police investigation were however able to formally rule out any road accident.
“The investigation is still ongoing, but I can however confide that two people have been arrested,” said Kato Belmans, spokesperson for the Antwerp prosecutor’s office.
The family of the victim had indicated that the child had been knocked down by a car, which had fled at high speed, according to his relatives.
But no one was however able to give a description of the vehicle, and no witness had attended the scene described.
According to the police, no road accident actually occurred.
