Two employees of a Réno-Dépôt stabbed during a robbery

Two employees of a Réno-Dépôt in the borough of LaSalle, in Montreal, were stabbed Monday followingnoon during a shoplifting committed in the store.

According to the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal SPVM), the two clerks, men aged 58 and 60, wanted to intervene when they noticed that a man was stealing merchandise.

In the process, the suspect, a 36-year-old man, exhibited a knife to attack the two employees. One of the two victims suffered lacerations in one arm, while the second was stabbed in the chest, said Raphaël Bergeron, spokesperson for the SPVM.

Both men suffered non-life-threatening injuries but were taken to hospital nonetheless.

The suspect, for his part, was intercepted by the police in the minutes following the event, not far from the business. He might face charges including robbery and assault with a weapon.

A woman who accompanied the suspect was also arrested and was to be met by the investigators.
