Two Decades of Manzanillo TV: A Celebration of Culture and Community

Manzanillo.- A meeting between television producers and local personalities from various areas of society was today the start of the program of activities for the 20th anniversary of the creation of the Golfovisión Telecentre.

The big blue television house is a source of pride for the residents of this coastal town in the eastern province of Granma, as they are the protagonists of the products that reach television viewers on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons.

Brizaida Sánchez Olivera, director of the channel, told this journalist that on the occasion of the celebrations they will also broadcast a special magazine with the experiences, anecdotes and meaning of the date for several of the best exponents of art and culture, among them the National Music Award winner Wilfredo Pachy Naranjo Verdecia.

Next Saturday night will be the Cultural Gala for the twentieth anniversary of Golfovisión, a moment in which, on behalf of the people, the main political and governmental authorities of the municipality will recognize the team of artists, announcers, technicians and journalists of the Telecentre that holds the status of National Distinguished Collective.

The result of one of the ideas of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, Golfovisión was the first television station created in Cuba on September 8, 2000, the date on which International Journalist Day is celebrated.

Professionalism, talent, skill and dedication are the qualities of a strong team of Gulfvisión producers, which over the course of two decades has become, thanks to its results in national festivals and international radio and television conventions, a Cuban benchmark for this type of community television.
