Altenfelden/Arnreit – On Thursday, one of the two victims of the hunter who is said to have shot two people in the Mühlviertel on Monday of the previous week will be buried in his home community. The second victim, a local mayor, will be buried on Saturday. After the suspected perpetrator was found dead in the forest after a large-scale manhunt of around five days and an autopsy initially provided no information about the time of death, a forensic entomological report is now being prepared.

In light of the recent tragedy in Mühlviertel, where a hunter allegedly shot two individuals, we’re turning our attention to the forensic techniques that may assist in the investigation, particularly forensic entomology. As the community grapples with the loss of these victims, including a local mayor, forensic experts are now involved in determining the timing of their deaths through the study of insects.
We want to hear from you: How do you feel about the reliance on forensic entomology in modern criminal investigations? Do you think it effectively contributes to our understanding of the timeline of crimes, or does it raise concerns about the ethics of using decomposition and insect life as a means of solving murders?
