two dead and one injured after a violent collision (Colfontaine)

An expert descended on the scene to clarify the circumstances of the accident.

A dramatic accident occurred this morning around 6 a.m. in Pâturages, at the crossroads formed by Avenue Fénélon and Rue du Grand Passage. A VW Golf and a Volvo station wagon collided violently. A parked car was also hit in the crash. The toll is heavy: the two drivers died and a passenger was injured. The three people involved are men; one of the drivers was 59 years old and the other 23 years old. The passenger, in his thirties, suffered from fractured ribs and was taken to hospital.

The police and emergency services descended on the scene and a repairman was called to remove the vehicles reduced to the state of wreckage. Traffic was blocked until around 10 a.m. The mayor of Colfontaine Lucien d’Antonio and the alderman in charge of Mobility Karim Mariage also visited the scene.

The circumstances of the accident will have to be clarified and an expert has been called to the scene. No conclusions can be drawn at this stage.

On social networks, many residents point out a recurring problem of excessive speed on Avenue Fénélon, a straight line artery on which right-wing priorities are supposed to slow down motorists. The intersection where the accident took place was recently redone and a speed bump installed. But according to various testimonies, the development does not have the desired effect and would rather serve as a springboard.
