Two days of dance tradition with an eye on… “the future of yesterday”

Hundreds of friends of the dance tradition filled to capacity on Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 September, the event hall of the Marouda School Complex (formerly SEGAS) to watch this year’s main performance of the Dance Department of the municipality of Patreon.

More than 500 male and female dancers of all ages presented acts from eighteen regions of Greece and Cyprus, presenting the great work that is done non-profit in the Dance Department of the municipality.

A large part of the event was dedicated to dances from Cyprus as this year marked 50 years since the Turkish invasion.

During the two days, the events were attended by the Mayor of Patras, Kostas Peletidis, the vice-mayor of Culture, Apostolis Angelis, the president of the Non-profit “Carnival of Patras”, Pavlos Skouras, municipal and district councilors. The general curator was the person in charge of the Dance Hall – Municipal Councilor – Christos Yiannopoulos.

This year’s event was accompanied by live music from an orchestra with great musicians of our popular tradition under the direction of Nikos Milos.

The orchestra consisted of: Nikos Mila violin, Panos Skouteris – clarinet – bagpipes – tsambouna, Angeliki Pardali – singing – santouri, Kostas Stephanopoulos – singing – accordion, Panagiotis Stathakis – lute, Alexandros Rizopoulos – percussion.
