Two Chilean families arrive in Santiago following evacuating from Ukraine

This morning landed on Santiago the flight carrying two Chilean families evacuating from Ukraine.

These are two families who have been trying to get to Chile for two weeks, and following asking for help at the Foreign Ministry, they finally managed to reunite with their families.

Mario Cárdenas and his family were the first to arrive: his wife Irina, his son and he lived in Kharkiv, just 20 kilometers from the border with Russia. Six years ago they did not visit the country.

We were among the most affected Chilean compatriots, because we were on the red line, in the fire zone“, explained Cárdenas, who thanked the work of the Foreign Ministry.

The second Chilean to arrive was Felipe Albornoz, who arrived with his Ukrainian wife and daughter. Albornoz lived in Kiev, and had been hiding in a bunker since the beginning of the conflict.

“When we had the opportunity to evacuate from Kiev, we arrived at the train station, it was a sea of people, people were fighting (…) When I evacuated I managed to communicate with the Chilean consul in Romania, they behaved very well“said the Chilean.
