According to preliminary information, it is a woman and a child, whose bodies were found on the side of the Playa Blanca road, meters from a burned-out vehicle. With this unfortunate fact, there are already 7 homicides in 16 days in the Tarapacá region.
This Monday morning, two charred bodies were found south of the urban area of IquiqueTarapaca region.
Specifically, the discovery was made in the Playa Blanca sector. For its part, a vehicle was also found on fire near the intersection with Coastal Route 1.
According to preliminary information, the victims correspond to an adult woman and a child.
The Prosecutor’s Office ordered the Homicide Brigade (BH) of the Iquique Investigation Police (PDI) to carry out investigations to clarify the causes of the incident.
Discovery of bodies in Playa Blanca, Iquique
In this regard, the port captain (s), Alejandra Basai, confirmed the discovery of the charred bodies around 10:00 a.m. in Playa Blanca.
“At approximately 10:00 a.m. We received a call to 137, the maritime emergency number, from a neighbor in the sector where he had found two charred bodies here in the Playa Blanca sector“, explained the surrogate harbor captain.
Along these lines, he added that “Maritime Police patrols were deployed, the sector was reached along with Carabineros personnel and the Prosecutor was called, where the procedure was ordered to the BH of the PDI, together with the Crime Laboratory (Lacrim) and the Medical Legal Service (SML)”.

For his part, the sub-prefect Mauricio Vallejos, head (s) of the BH of the PDI, maintained that they are carrying out the investigations of both findings. Specific, to decide whether or not the burned car was related to the burned bodies found.

With this unfortunate finding, there have been registered 7 homicides in 16 days so far in 2023 in the Taparaca region.
It is worth mentioning that only this past weekend there were 3 homicides: two in Iquique and one in the Alto Hospicio prison.
