Two British brothers became parents for the first time within two hours on the same day at Worcestershire Royal Infirmary in England.
The Monday following Easter, George Robinson and Hayley Bucking had a baby boy they named Oliver James, and less than two hours later, Joe and Ellie Robinson had a baby boy they named Reginald Giuffre.
The Robinsons, from Redditch, south of Birmingham, described the experience as “magical”.
The two babies were brought up by the same midwife, Amy Turner, who happened to be celebrating her 33rd birthday that day.
Baby Oliver weighed 3.6 kilograms at the time of his birth on the expected day, while Reginald weighed 3.2 kilograms at the time of his birth, which came five days before the expected day.
The brothers work together in a tree-trimming company, and are expected to be uncles later this year; Their older brother Tom is expecting his firstborn in September.
“We were there to support each other,” says Joe. “The hospital staff was a bit confused – they kept asking us who we were and whether we were together, because visitors weren’t allowed in.”
Joe adds: “When we told them that we are brothers and that our two wives are in labor at the same time, they were confused and did not find an answer.”
“Best friends”
“Hopefully the two kids will become best friends, I think they might be spoiled,” says Bucking, who has just become a mother.
Midwife Turner received the baby Oliver, and Emma Bentley assisted the midwife in receiving the baby Reginald.
“It feels so good to be part of the same family on one day,” Turner says.
