Three young boys are said to have been traveling at significantly excessive speed a few meters from the tangent driveway when the 18-year-old driver lost control of the high-horsepower car and skidded. Within a very short time, the vehicle was on fire, emergency services reported.

The accident occurred on the expressway in Vienna-Donaustadt in the area of Hermann-Gebauer-Straße at around 2:30 a.m. The vehicle initially left the road, overturned, then crashed into a concrete barrier and caught fire. The following car drivers tried to help the three young occupants of the accident car. Particularly tragic: The brother of the 17-year-old deceased is said to have been in another car just behind the car involved in the accident. He had to witness the incident.

The 18-year-old driver and a 16-year-old passenger were initially rescued from the burning car with burns by other road users. Any help came too late for the 17-year-old boy. He was trapped and could not be rescued in time. The young driver also died of his injuries in a hospital on Sunday afternoon, the police announced. The 16-year-old’s life was still in acute danger.
