Twitter owner Elon Musk has announced that his company will launch a new authentication service on December 2nd. There have been delays and blunders over account impersonation issues.
Twitter suspends subscription program to deal with ‘spoofing’ problem
The new authentication service will have a gold certification mark for businesses, a gray certification mark for government accounts, and a blue certification mark for individuals.
All accounts are authenticated manually.
Sorry for the delay, we’re tentatively launching Verified on Friday next week.
Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates.
Painful, but necessary.
