Although at a slower pace than seen a few months ago, the Twitter continues testing new features and functionalities that will be (or not) released soon.
More recently, the network has been testing a new text formatting option, as well as the possibility for users to be notified regarding replies to posts. Let’s check it all out below.
Text formatting in tweets
Developer Alessandro Paluzzi was the one who recently noticed the tests involving text formatting in tweets, which may gain bold, italic and underline options.
The head of Twitter, Elon Muskhad flagged the addition of the feature, also stating that it is considering increasing the maximum number of tweet characters to 10.000 — more than double the limit available to Twitter Blue subscribers in the United States.
Within the context of super long tweets, text formatting makes more sense, but it can also make the web experience a lot more “cluttered”.
reply notifications
As noted by our contributor Vinícius Porto, Twitter is also testing an option to enable activity notifications (such as replies and quotes) in tweets, even if you are not the author of the post in question.
As you can see in the image above, when you tap on the three dots to the right of a tweet and select the “Notify me” option, a tab will appear at the bottom of the screen with the possibility of activating notifications for replies or quotes. The functionality is likely to be limited by users’ privacy settings, however.
