(CNN) — Twitter CEO Brett Taylor responded on Friday to billionaire Elon Musk’s announcement that the $44 billion deal to buy the site was cancelled.
Taylor said, via his Twitter account, that “the Twitter board of directors is committed to completing the transaction at the agreed price and terms, and intends to pursue legal procedures to implement it,” and added: “We are confident that we will prevail in court.”
Musk had announced, earlier Friday, that he wanted to cancel the deal because Twitter “violates terms in the original agreement, which was signed in April.”
In recent weeks, Elon Musk has expressed his concerns, without any clear evidence, that there are more fake accounts and spam on Twitter than the site’s management has publicly stated.
Analysts have speculated that the concerns may be an attempt to create a pretext for an exit from a deal that he may now view as overblown.
Twitter did not immediately respond to CNN’s request for comment.
Musk had previously accused the social network of violating the agreement by not providing the data he requested regarding spam and fake accounts.
Musk previously said the acquisition “can’t move forward” until the company provides “proof” of the spam scale.
In making the Twitter purchase agreement, the spam bot catcher on the social network’s platform made it a central issue.
