At the beginning of the week, the executive Elon Musk removed the famous bird icon from the (now ex) Twitterreplacing it with the controversial new brand ????. In addition to being available on the web version of the platform, now the new social network icon has also replaced the previous one in the iOS app.
The change came with the update to version 9.68, which is being released today, along with a description that calls the network a “digital square for everyone”. Despite the change in the app icon, the name is still “Twitter”.
Remember that the URL twitter.com still works, with the page x.com redirecting to the website. In addition, according to Musk, the current logo is provisional, so that other changes should occur until a new brand is established.
Within the application, the bird logo was replaced by the ???? in some areas, although the term “Twitter” still appears in certain places, such as in mentions of Twitter Blue and the Spaces. For subscribers, variations of the icon in other colors are available (as before), while other users only have access to the black version.
This looks like a parallel universe.
Following this visual identity, the default mode is no longer light and has become dark, although it is possible to return to the white background if desired. O Twitter app for macOSit is worth noting, has not yet received the update — at least so far, perpetuating its “abandonment”.
In addition, the update that changed the app icon also expanded the sharing of the ad remuneration for more users. The feature is now available to all Blue subscribers with 500+ followers and whose posts have garnered 15M+ impressions in the last 3 months.
As a curiosity, the adoption of the ???? it is a consequence of personal preferences by Musk, who once had another company with the same name – which is now PayPal. The executive also owns SpaceX, which also has the letter in its name, and has founded another company named X.ai.
The ex-Twitter, whose holding company is now called X Corp.has the project to be a “super app”, having been called by its CEOChief executive officeror executive director.”>1, Linda Yaccarino, of “future of unlimited interactivity”, offering a series of features. The network, then, will not only function for communication, but also payments, video, messaging and more.

As noted by John Gruber, do Daring Fireball, although the “name” of the application has been changed to X, in the App Store it is still identified as Twitter. This, as explained by product designer Nick, is related to the App Store not allowing an app to have a single character name.
On iOS, the situation is distinct as Apple does not permit any app to have a single character as their app name.
If they manage to obtain approval, it would mark the first instance since the inception of the iOS App Store that such a permission has been granted. pic.twitter.com/Dzx0HAsz9b

On iOS, the situation is different, as Apple does not allow any application to have a single character as the application name.
If they manage to get approval, it will be the first time since the inception of the iOS App Store that such permission has been granted.
It is possible, therefore, that the social network has created a type of “bundle” between the terms Twitter and X so that the app can be displayed in the App Store and, when installed, only show the current real name.
We will see, therefore, if this will continue in this way or if Apple will make an (unprecedented) exception for Musk’s platform, in order to fully complete this transition.
