After many “threats” and some postponements, the Twitter today made good on its long-standing promise to remove verification stamps from legacy accounts that have not invested in a subscription to Twitter Blue or from Verified Organizations.
First announced for March 23, pushed back to April 1, and once more today, the move is the final step to display a charge for the verification badge on celebrity accounts, influencers and organizations.
Before, the social network followed certain criteria to define which accounts were entitled to the seal, but Elon Musk decided to implement such changes following taking over the company because it understood that there was corruption in the verification process.
As of today, Twitter is also displaying a different message when we tap or click on the blue badge — days following confusing users by putting accounts that subscribed to Twitter Blue and pre-existing verified accounts in the same basket.
“This account is verified because they are subscribed to Twitter Blue and have verified their phone numbers”, says the label, still in English in the Brazilian version of the (ex)microblog.
While many prominent account owners have chosen (at least for now) not to “surrender” to a subscription plan, others have already paid to have the blue check back, as is the case with the CEOChief executive officeror executive director.”>1 and Apple, Tim Cook.
Who out there is willing to pay? We, from MacMagazine, We are not. ????
