Twitter changes the description of the badge of users already verified by the platform

O Twitter has gone through several changes recently, and even the iconic blue bird was even exchanged for a “Doge”. Now, the platform has changed the description for users with the infamous blue seal, which has already been subject of many controversies.

The new description removes any distinction between Twitter Blue subscribers, the new service that entitles the badge, and accounts verified by the network before the changes made by CEO Elon Musk, as pointed out by the TechCrunch website.

The original description of Twitter’s blue badge indicated that a given verified account was from a “notable person in government, news, entertainment, or other designated category.” The social network then changed the text a little.

With the arrival of the new Twitter Blue, it became: “This is a pre-existing verified account. It may or may not be from a person with notoriety”; now, the description states that the account “has been verified because it is subscribed to Twitter Blue or is a pre-existing verified account”.

The change came a day following the date the company was supposed to start removing the seal from pre-existing verified accounts before the Musk-era changes. It’s worth noting that there are no details as to why Twitter hasn’t done this yet.

It is speculated that Musk would be offering a “grace” period to allow already verified users to sign up for Twitter Blue and keep the blue badge. In any case, the platform has not officially commented on the subject.
