The world’s largest game broadcasting platform ‘Twitch’ will also stop creating video-on-demand (VOD) content from the 7th of next month.
On the 30th, Twitch announced on its official blog, “As announced on November 10, 2022, from February 7, 2023, users in Korea will no longer be able to create or upload new VOD content.”
Twitch reduced the maximum resolution from 1080p to 720p in Korea in September of last year due to increased service costs, and last month announced the suspension of the VOD function (including clips, previous broadcasts, highlights, and uploaded content) for Korean viewers. .
Twitch’s series of measures only apply to the Korean community. In regions other than Korea, VOD services operate normally. Twitch explained that it was “part of an effort to implement the best way to meet regulatory standards,” but some analysts say that Twitter’s action is due to the legislative movement of the network usage fee law promoted by the National Assembly.
Currently, the Korea Communications Commission is known to be investigating whether Twitch’s action, which limited video quality only in Korea, violates the law.
