2024-01-22 08:25:35

Twint saw significant usage of its digital payment system last year, especially in stores. The company, owned in particular by several banks, wants to further develop its settlement system to make it easier to use.

In 2023, Twint claimed 590 million financial transactions following 386 million operations in 2022. The company has “more than” 5 million active users, a roughly stable figure compared to that announced at the end of February 2023.

Some 72% of transactions carried out with this application were for commercial operations and 28% for payments between individuals, the company, owned by the cantonal banks of Vaud and Zurich, Postfinance, Raiffeisen, UBS, underlined in a press release on Monday. Six and Worldline.

Regulations in stores up sharply

Payments in traditional retail have almost doubled, mainly at supermarket checkouts.

Thanks to new technical innovations, Twint intends to make payments at store checkouts even faster.

Physical money is disappearing at an accelerating rate from our daily lives and three quarters of transactions will soon be electronic in Switzerland. The success of Twint is partly behind this revolution.
