Twint Payment Service: Flexible Payment Options for Online Shoppers

2023-08-31 13:39:08

The Twint payment service offers a new option to its users who can now choose to pay the invoice immediately or within 30 days. A service that works in the same way as ordering online on invoice.

This is what Twint wants to highlight: the comparison with a 30-day invoice system. The option allows customers to test the merchandise before paying for it.

For Jens Plaat, member of the management of Twint, this function does not compete with credit cards which apply a line of credit with interest in the event of late payment. Twint relies on a system of reminders with costs.

Fewer late payments

Jens Plaat repeats it in La Matinale on Wednesday, this new service amounts to a system with an invoice, but improved. “In e-commerce, many transactions are settled by invoice or credit card, that’s nothing new. We just make the hunt for invoices pleasant, easier and above all more transparent.”

“I can see all my transactions in the app and I can choose if I want to pay them now, cancel them, pay them automatically. All of this I cannot do with an invoice. We think that with a better view of “Together, far fewer of these settlements will be late,” he added.

For Twint, this new function also serves another objective: the multiplication of transactions. Transactions for which merchants pay a form of tax, the amount of which is divided between the banks and Twint.

Fears of debt encouragement

But for Pascal Pfister, secretary general of the Dettes Conseils Suisse association, this new service presents an increased risk of indebtedness. “We are very skeptical regarding this new service from Twint because it increases the risk of debt for many people. It is simply another form of consumer credit even if it is very short term.”

Pascal Pfister therefore recommends, depending on the management of each budget, to pay attention to the new Twint service. “It is important that people can choose this option themselves. We advise people who are already struggling to end the month with their budget to forgo this service and pay directly.”

“There are groups at risk and of course young people who are not yet used to managing money are a special part of them. They risk getting into debt and the more they buy on credit, even short term or with installment payments, the higher the risk,” he said.
