Twins seek to acquire Paddack

The Twins made the most surprising move of the winter by signing All-Star shortstop Carlos Correa to a three-year deal. But apparently, the Minnesota Ninth isn’t done making moves to beef up for Opening Day. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Twins are “working to acquire” right-hander Chris Paddack from the Padres.

Paddack, 26, had a solid rookie season in 2019, posting a 3.33 ERA in 26 starts for San Diego, but has struggled ever since, going 167 1/3 innings over the past two seasons. his ERA is 4.95.

The Twins already bolstered their rotation this winter by trading for right-hander Sonny Gray from the Reds. They also added catcher Gary Sánchez and Colombian infielder Gio Urshela in a trade with the Yankees. After capturing the division title in 2019 and 2021, Minnesota finished in last place in the AL Central in 2021, but the franchise appears to be gearing up for a postseason contention once more.
