The Twin Cities passenger ship was damaged in an accident on Vienna’s Danube Canal on Saturday morning. According to the company operating the ship between Vienna and Bratislava, the “Twin City Liner” encountered an obstruction on the East Station Bridge (Ostbahnbrücke) at 8:42 a.m. shortly after setting off from Sweden Square. One of the ship’s two hulls was damaged and it was unable to continue sailing.

According to the operating company, the obstacle is the Eastern Railway Bridge itself, which is currently undergoing renovations. Therefore, construction work was already in progress when the accident occurred. Fortunately no one was injured. The ship is currently anchored in the Port of Vienna and will be sent to Österreichische Schiffswerften AG in Linz as soon as possible for repairs and inspections. “It is currently impossible to estimate when the Twin City Liner will be able to resume operations,” the operator stressed in a press release. “Passengers were immediately provided with buses to take them back to Sweden Square.”
