At least 12 people have been killed in an explosion in the center of the city of San Cristóbal in the Dominican Republic. More than 40 people were injured, wrote the mayor of the suburb of the capital Santo Domingo, José Montás, on Facebook on Tuesday. The explosion shook a market area with many shops in San Cristóbal on Monday followingnoon (local time) and resulted in a large fire.
Numerous buildings were damaged, as can be seen in pictures. Montás wrote that five shops and ten vehicles were destroyed. According to the government of the Caribbean state, a four-month-old child was among the dead.
