Popular social networking site Twitter has placed warning labels on US President Donald Trump’s tweets, saying his information about mail-in voting is misleading.
Donald Trump said in his tweet that ‘this year will send massive new and unpredictable ballots to voters or elsewhere, the outcome of the November 3 election cannot be accurately determined and few people want it to be’.
He had said that ‘another election controversy came yesterday, stop the madness of the ballots’.
Twitter applied another similar label to another tweet by Trump, which was also about mail-in voting.
Trump’s post was accompanied by a warning sign from Twitter that read, “Learn how safe and transparent mail-in voting is.”
In another tweet, the American president accused Twitter that ‘Twitter makes sure that anything related to trending is wrong, fake or not, whatever he is doing is being seen. Is’.
This is the first time that Trump’s tweets have been verified by Twitter, but in May this year, two of Trump’s tweets related to mail-in voting were deemed ‘unnecessary’ by Twitter and they were accused of making false claims. He was charged.
The US President’s tweets are intended to make it clear that the mail-in voting process will lead to fraud and election rigging, but they have no evidence.
Twitter linked to the post with facts about mail-in voting, telling users that the claims were unwarranted, pointing to CNN and the Washington Post and other media outlets.
Trump faced a backlash in June this year when his tweet containing a video tribute to George Floyd was blocked due to copyright.
Twitter later blocked another similar video, which was retweeted by Trump, following complaints.
The video, based on music by the group Lincoln Park, was removed from CoTrump’s feed, and the notification stated that the video had been “disabled due to a complaint by the copyright owner”.
