In her reports, the 61-year-old journalist focuses equally on those in power and those who are powerless.

The ZDF television reporter Katrin Eigendorf (61) is awarded the Leipzig Prize for the Freedom and Future of the Media 2023. For many years, the media foundation of Sparkasse Leipzig announced on Thursday that it has stood for reporting that focuses equally on those in power and those who are powerless in war and crisis situations. Eigendorf had reported from Afghanistan and Ukraine, among others. In 2022 she was awarded the Grimme Prize for her reports on the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan.

The prize for the freedom and future of the media will be awarded in Leipzig on October 8th. It is endowed with 10,000 euros and has been awarded to journalists, publishers or institutions since 2001. Last year, the award went to Russian investigative journalist Roman Badanin.
