TV Nostalgia: Maxime Denommée was fascinated by The little house on the prairie

Although his outdoor activities and his work on the farm did not allow him to spend much time in front of the TV, Maxime Denommée had several fields of interest, as evidenced by his many memories of Master key, The Little House On The Prairie… and the fight!

Maxime, which youth program impressed you the most?

Master key. I have two sisters, so we played by identifying with the three main characters [Passe-Partout, Passe-Carreau et Passe-Montagne, NDLR]. I remember making wooden necklaces for them, which were given to them in person. At that time, they were on tour. We had seen them in the auditorium of the high school in Farnham.

What are your fondest childhood TV memories?

My fondest childhood television memories were watching The Little House On The Prairie with family. I wanted to be Charles Ingalls [joué par Michael Landon, NDRL] once an adult. I wanted to become a cabinetmaker or a carpenter. It turned out since I work with wood regularly.

Did you watch a lot of TV when you were young?

I didn’t watch TV so much. I played outside and worked on the farm with my father. On the other hand, besides Master key et The Little House On The Prairie, I loved wrestling, on Sundays at 11 a.m., hosted by Édouard Carpentier. With the nice Rougeau brothers and the mean Macho Man, Jake “The Snake” Roberts. Without forgetting the duel of the titans: Hulk Hogan once morest the Ferré Giant.

Is there a character who influenced you?

I really liked Esteban in The mysterious cities of Gold. He was very brave. And the documentary-like finale of the episodes fascinated me. It was mysterious for the child that I was, but so instructive. I would love to see that once more today.

Is there still a song from a show that sticks in your mind?

All songs from Master key. And I still sing The most beautiful rainbow.

Is there a character you would have liked to play for children?

I would like to play a character like Monsieur Craquepoutte [joué par Denis Houle, NDLR] in Knock Knock knock. I like sympathetic curmudgeons.

What universe would you like the children to discover?

I would like to discover universes like that of Floor and Goblet. Making children’s imagination work with almost nothing rather than bombarding them with information and ultra-stimulation. The cartoons broadcast on Télétoon, I find it unbearable and mind-numbing.

What do you think of today’s youth TV?

I really like the work of Télé-Québec. It’s so important to have educational programs that trust children’s intelligence and develop their imagination.

♦ Maxime Denommée will defend the title role of the original series Padre whose episodes are posted on TV5Unis.ca this Friday. The production for which he lends an attentive ear to the sins that passers-by confess to him will then be on the small screen, on Unis TV, from December 17 to 23, at 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. The cast of Pierre-Marc’s psychological drama Drouin can also count on the presence of Micheline Lanctôt.
