Bernd Pucher, training site manager in Döbriach, and his training team recorded around 18 divers from seven different ÖWR sites at the ice diving seminar last weekend.
DÖBRIACH/TURRACH. Exactly at 8.30 am last Saturday, the 18 rescue divers from all over Carinthia met at Lake Turrach to take part in this year’s ice diving seminar.
Warm welcome
First, the rescue divers were welcomed by Alexander Springenschmied, the host of the Seehotel Jägerwirt. After the welcome from Bernd Pucher and the deputy training manager, TL assistant Volkmar Ertl, the introduction to the seminar followed. The infrastructure was built this year by the army, which is why the focus might be placed entirely on ice diving.
A comprehensive program
In addition to the ice diving itself, this year there was also the construction of an ice diving site, the handling and use of oxygen, the resuscitation and handling of a defibrillator as well as the rescue chain including the emergency ascent. Another topic was the sensible device configuration for the rescue diver in the ÖWR. A total of four dives were planned for each of the 18 rescue divers, whereby they had to cope with different tasks. In the first phase of the seminar, for example, a work platform was installed at a depth of five meters by two ÖWR rescue divers, so that various exercises and work might then be carried out.
High visit
At the beginning of the seminar, the regional manager of the ÖWR Carinthia, Bruno Rassinger, visited the rescue divers on the Turrach and was able to convince himself of the great organization by the training manager Bernd Pucher and his team. On Sunday, state diving officer Markus Weihs also found that the practice and training facility fully corresponded to the plans presented. On his departure he thanked Bernd Pucher for the excellent planning, organization and implementation of this year’s ice diving seminar.
“The ice diving seminar is essential for maintaining and increasing the operational readiness of the ÖWR divers,” emphasized training manager Bernd Pucher.
Finally, as the person with overall responsibility, he also thanked Obstlt Michael Novotny from the Armed Forces for the excellent support. The deputy state diving officer, Rene Wally, who was also a participant this time, thanked the organization team from Döbriach and all divers from the deployment sites Spittal/Millstatt, Döbriach, Villach, Faak, Sattendorf, Längsee and St. Andrä in his final statement.
Thank you for your willingness in your free time for the benefit and safety of the people of Carinthia,” says Rene Wally.
