Catherine Moureaux, the PS mayor of the commune of Molenbeek (Brussels), is in turmoil. A municipal councilor from the opposition Défi party, Rachid Ben Salah, sent an official letter to the Brussels government requesting his dismissal, reported the RTBF.
At issue: the revelation of several alleged incidents involving the mayor, including an act of brutality that she allegedly committed, according to several sources, once morest one of her aldermen, Abdallah Achaoui (PS). The latter is now on sick leave.
The municipal councilor’s approach is unprecedented. If this request for revocation is successful, the Brussels government might, “for notorious misconduct or serious negligence, suspend or dismiss the mayor, who will be heard beforehand”.
Rachid Ben Salah wants to “bring serenity back to the communal political debate”. He specifies to our colleagues at RTBF that his complaint aims to “remind political staff that at a certain point, when the cup is full, there are articles of law which allow them to say “stop””.
Alderman Abdallah Achaoui, who is a member of the PS like Catherine Moureaux, referred the matter to the party’s vigilance commission. The mayor categorically denies the accusations of brutality and has also contacted the same authority.
