Türkiye denies allegations of lifting trade restrictions against Tel Aviv

Turkey – Turkish Trade Minister Omar Polat denied allegations by Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz that Ankara had lifted most of the restrictions against Tel Aviv.

This came in statements to Anadolu from the American capital, Washington, where he arrived to participate in the 39th American-Turkish conference.

Polat said: “The Israeli Foreign Minister made a statement that is completely inconsistent with seriousness, and since it was in Arabic, it seems that he made it to satisfy public opinion and his political supporters.”

He added: “It is a product of choice and has nothing to do with reality, and is inconsistent with the seriousness of political statesmanship,” stressing that Turkey’s position is clear in this regard.

On the other hand, Polat stressed that Turkey and the United States of America have shown determination to revive economic relations and move them forward.

He pointed out that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries has increased despite some tensions in the political and economic fields from time to time.

He explained that more than 120 administrators from large and medium American companies will be present next week in Istanbul during the “Trade Winds” event, and will hold discussions over a period of 3 days with their counterparts from the Turkish business world.

On May 2, the Turkish Ministry of Trade announced, in a statement on the “X” platform, a complete cessation of commercial transactions with Israel, until humanitarian aid is allowed to enter the Gaza Strip without restrictions.

The Israeli war on Gaza since October 7 has left tens of thousands of Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and about 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of children and the elderly.

Israel continues the war despite the issuance of a resolution by the UN Security Council to stop the fighting immediately, and also despite the International Court of Justice demanding immediate measures to prevent acts of “genocide” and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
