ISRAEL plans to build 3,500 housing units in the occupied West Bank. This plan was criticized by Türkiye because it was considered a widespread occupation of Palestinian territory.
“The plan approved by the Israeli authorities for the construction of 3,500 housing units in the West Bank constitutes a further expansion of the occupation in the Palestinian territories,” said Foreign Ministry spokesman Oncu Keceli.
According to him, this action must be stopped immediately. He also considered it necessary to define Israel’s crimes in the most accurate terms to prevent repetition of violations of international law.
According to him, it is not enough for the international community to simply call occupation activities in the West Bank as illegal settlements. “What is being questioned is Israel’s forced confiscation of land that legally belongs to the Palestinian people,” he said.
According to Palestinian estimates, around 725 thousand settlers live in 176 Jewish-only settlements and 186 border settlements in the occupied West Bank. According to international law, all Jewish settlements in the occupied territories are considered illegal.
This illegal occupation has received criticism from various countries, including Israel’s ally, the United States. (Anadolu/Cah/Z-7)
