Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today, Saturday, that attempts to poison the democratic process that Turkey is experiencing will not be crowned with success, stressing the unity and solidarity of the Turkish people in confronting it.
Erdogan’s speech came in a post on the “X” platform, commenting on an attack targeting a campaign for his party, the Justice and Development Party, in the city of Istanbul, within the framework of the local elections scheduled to be held at the end of next March.
Erdogan said that the attacks, which target democracy, unity and solidarity in his country, will not achieve their goal, expressing his condemnation of the armed attack that occurred during the election campaign of his party and the People’s Alliance candidate for mayor of the Kucukcekmece district in Istanbul, Aziz Yeni Ay.
He pointed out that comprehensive investigations had been opened to uncover the circumstances of the attack, wishing a speedy recovery to a woman who was seriously injured as a result of it.
He added: “We will never allow attempts to poison the process by those who cannot accept the conduct of the electoral process in a manner that is sound and appropriate for our democracy.”
He continued: “Any attack targeting our democracy, unity, and solidarity will not achieve its goal.”
