The current Turkish president and presidential candidate, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, cast his vote in the Turkish elections at a polling station in Istanbul, while his rival, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, cast his vote in Ankara, after the polls opened in Turkey on Sunday morning.

After casting his vote, Erdogan said: “There are no problems with the voting process in all regions of the country,” and he expressed his hope that the election result would be “good for Turkey’s future.”

In Ankara, presidential candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu said, when casting his vote, that Turkey “longed for democracy.”

Meanwhile, the voting process is taking place across Turkey, more than 60 million Turkish voters continue to go to polling stations to choose a new president and new members of parliament.

Polls indicate an intensifying competition for the presidency between Recep Tayyip Erdogan and opposition leader Kamal Kilicdaroglu.

Also competing in the parliamentary elections is the People’s Alliance consisting of Erdogan’s conservative Justice and Development Party, the right-wing Nationalist Movement Party and others, and the opposition coalition led by Kilicdaroglu, consisting of 6 opposition parties, including the Republican People’s Party.
