Turkish authorities pursue tax evaders: Most of them spend more than $150,000 per month

The agency indicated that the ministry had drawn up a list of regarding 800 citizens, each of whom, despite not having any official income, spends more than 5 million liras ($150,000) per month.

The agency quoted a source in the Turkish Ministry of Finance as saying: “We will work to increase the efficiency and integrity of tax collection, and we will receive more taxes from those who earn a lot, and we will improve budget financing by combating the shadow economy.”

According to the agency, in the first stage, the Tax Audit Board (VDK) was able to identify a list of 800 people who submitted documents showing no income or very low profits, but each of them had monthly expenses exceeding 5 million liras.

The source pointed out that “in some cases, monthly expenses exceed 10 million liras ($300,000) and these citizens own luxury cars and buy expensive luxury goods.” He stressed that the Ministry of Finance will determine the source of income and display the amount of lost taxes and will provide it to citizens from the list.

According to the source, the ministry has been closely monitoring companies that do not use official payment receipts and request payment for services via bank transfer, thus evading taxes.
