Turkish Indonesian ALUMNI held a seminar entitled Prevention of Radicalism and Terrorism for the Diaspora Abroad as well as Pre-Departure Socialization and Orientation for Turkish Government Scholarship Students at the IASTH Building, UI Salemba Campus, Central Jakarta, Monday (23/9).

This event aims to increase awareness of the dangers of radicalism among the diaspora, as well as provide training for students who will continue their studies in Türkiye.

The seminar opened with remarks from the Chairman of Turkish Alumni, M. Sya’roni Rofii, who emphasized the importance of cooperation between all stakeholders to build superior human resources in the future.

“Indonesian Turkish alumni are committed to helping fellow students who are going to Turkey to study, and helping those who have just returned to their homeland,” said Sya’roni, who is also a lecturer at the University’s School of Strategic and Global Studies (SKSG). Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the Director of SKSG UI, Athor Subroto, in his speech underlined the role of education in building awareness of radicalism issues. Furthermore, the Indonesian Consul General, Darianto Harsono conveyed the government’s support in efforts to prevent terrorism.

The seminar session presented key speakers, including the Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, Fazli Dogan from Maarif Vakfi Indonesia, and the Head of the Terrorism Studies Study Program at the University of Indonesia, M. Syauqillah.

The speakers discussed the importance of preventing radicalism among Indonesian citizens abroad, especially in the context of education in Türkiye, which is one of the popular study destinations for Indonesian students.

The seminar activities were also combined with socialization and orientation for recipients of Turkish government scholarships. Turkish alumni such as Jelang Ramadhan, Nurfauzan Nafi, and Salwa Azzahra were also present to share their experiences while studying in Türkiye. They provide tips and motivation to prospective students so they can adapt well while in Türkiye, as well as make the most of the opportunity to study abroad.

This event is expected to provide in-depth insight for the participants regarding the challenges faced abroad who will depart on Turkish government scholarships next month. At the same time encouraging early preventive measures against radicalism and terrorism because geographically Türkiye is close to countries such as Syria and Iraq. (B-3)
