Al-Marsad Newspaper: Prince Turki Al-Abdullah Al-Faisal explained that the late Umm Kulthum came to Jeddah in 1972 to perform Umrah, and revealed the story of the song “For Your Eyes”, which was written by his late father, the poet Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal.
He said, in an interview with “Okaz”: “The story came when the late Umm Kulthum came to Jeddah to perform Umrah, as well as to apologize to the artist Fawzi Mahsoun – may God have mercy on him – because of what Baligh Hamdi did, who took from the late melodies in Fawzi Mahsoun’s song “I Loved Him” and rode it in The song “All Love”, and following that I came to my father’s house for lunch.
He added, “While she was eating lunch, she said: O Prince, you don’t have a poem to sing, so my father got up and presented her with 5 poems, and she took them and left for Egypt. Upon her arrival to her country, she read the poems and took a part from each poem, and composed a song for your eyes.”
And Prince Turki continued: “After the poem was completed, I presented it to the composer Baligh Hamdi and told my father, but Hamdi refused to compose it, and asked her to give Riyad Al-Sunbati, and the six said that there was no time and the melody became ready, but my father insisted on his decision, and indeed Al-Sunbati took it and composed it on the 3rd. days”.
